Team Trivia Night                                                                     

 

Team Trivia is a great opportunity for an establishment to increase traffic and encourage more patrons to return each week.  This competitive, upbeat, team involvement event appeals to every type of customer.  Here is how it works:

 
The Intro:

Your Disc Jockey/Host will begin to play music and advertise the game 30 minutes before the game actually begins.  During these 30 minutes he will encourage all patrons to come to the DJ booth and sign up their teams.  In addition to making frequent mention of the prizes people can win for participating in the game, he will pump any drink specials and promote other upcoming events.  People can sign up teams comprising of as many people as they wish and will choose a team name.  When they sign up they will be given writing implements and answer sheets.

 
Starting the game:

 After the initial 30 minutes the DJ will call for any other teams that would like to join.  Teams are permitted to join at any time throughout the game, but by joining after the game has started they will lose out on any points for questions that they missed.  The DJ will begin by discussing the details of the game and outlining a few ground rules (no shouting out answers & no mobile internet or calling others for answers).  He will then ask if anyone has additional questions and encourage contestants to come ask questions if they have any during the game.  At this point the DJ’s goal is to be sure everyone knows what they are doing and is ready to have a good time!

Playing the game:

As mentioned above, all contestants will be informed of the details before the game begins:

           

·         The trivia questions cover a wide range of topics from pop culture to history and everything in between.

·         The game has 5 rounds.

·         Each round has 4 questions.

·         After each question the DJ plays a song.

·         The point value for questions progresses with each additional round.

·         Each answer sheet has space for two questions.

·         When two questions have been answered contestants bring their answer sheets to the DJ.

·         The DJ announces the correct answers and records contestant’s points on his score sheet.

·         At the end of each round the DJ announces team standings.

·         After all five rounds there is one final category specific question in which the teams have an opportunity to wager points.

 

Ending the game: 

At the game’s conclusion all points are totaled and the winners are announced.  The establishment hosting the event is responsible for providing prizes.  Typically 1^st place is awarded $50.00 cash and 2^nd & 3^rd are awarded $25.00 and $15.00 respectively in either cash or gift certificates redeemable at the establishment.  While the prize details are up to the establishment to decide, we have found that the combination of prizes described above has been most effective in encouraging patrons to initially participate and to return in the future. 

 

The Outro:

During the remaining 30 minutes following the game’s conclusion, the DJ will play some additional music.  During this time he will continue to advertise any remaining drink specials, encourage patrons to visit next week and attempt to de-throne the current Team Trivia champions, and mention any other events happening throughout the week.  The DJ will also use the time to set the tone, through his choice of music and announcements, for any event that might be taking place later that same evening.
